How support is organised in Angus

Angus includes several towns and a wide rural area, so the right support has to be workable as well as available on paper. Start with the nursery or school and explain where the difficulty appears: in lessons, unstructured time, attendance, communication, sensory demands or travel.

Ask what the setting can put in place immediately and how it will judge whether the change helps. If support depends on travelling to another town, attending at a fixed time or using school transport, raise those practical details before the arrangement is finalised.

Angus Council is the education authority and its additional support needs section brings together learning information, transport guidance, GIRFEC material and local groups. Schools remain the usual route into education support, with council services becoming involved according to the child's needs.

NHS Tayside is the health board for Angus, Dundee City and Perth and Kinross. The board area does not combine the three councils' education decisions. Practical next steps

Ask the school for a short written plan containing the support, frequency, responsible person and review date. Include what happens at less structured points of the day, not only during classroom tasks.

Check transport separately from placement. Angus publishes specific information about transport for pupils with additional support needs, but eligibility and the arrangement offered depend on the individual circumstances. For health referrals, record the receiving NHS service rather than using NHS Tayside as though it were an appointment-tracking team.
