How support is organised in Carmarthenshire

Carmarthenshire County Council is the local education authority. Its ALN section brings together the local decision-making process, parent partnership, early years support, educational psychology and specialist provision. The council describes person-centred decisions involving learners, families and professionals.

Hywel Dda University Health Board serves Carmarthenshire as well as Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Education support can proceed while a health assessment or referral is pending. Practical next steps

Ask the setting to connect each barrier with a support action, intended outcome, responsible person and review date. For an IDP, check that the provision is specific and that the learner's views are included in a form they can manage.

Make the preferred language for meetings, assessment and provision clear. If education and health professionals are involved, identify who will bring recommendations together and how they will be used in ordinary lessons, transitions and routines rather than only at review meetings.
