How support is organised in Isle of Anglesey

If a child in Anglesey is finding learning, communication, attendance or the school environment difficult, begin with the people who see the situation directly. Describe what happens, what has already been tried and what would make it easier for the child to take part.

Ask the school or setting what it can change now and whether it needs to consider additional learning needs. Support should respond to the barrier in front of the child, while any decision about ALN or an individual development plan is made.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board provides NHS services across all six North Wales council areas. A health service may therefore be based away from the island or organised across a wider catchment. Practical next steps

Speak to the class teacher, ALNCo or setting lead and ask for the concern and agreed response to be recorded. If an IDP is being considered, ask who will make the decision, how the child will be involved and which additional learning provision is proposed.

For a health referral, record the receiving team, location and expected next contact. If travel from the island is involved, ask about appointment timing, missed learning and whether any suitable remote or local option exists. Keep education and health actions in one chronology without blurring who is responsible for each.
